Lin Fengmian 林风眠(1900-1991)

Lin Fengmian (1900-1992) was originally named Feng Ming, a native of Mei County, Guangdong. Born into a family of stonemasons, he went to Shanghai at the age of 18. In 1919, he went to France to study with Xu Beihong and Zhang Daoyu. He studied Western painting in France and Germany.In the early years, he created oil paintings and painted ink landscapes, flowers and birds. After the 1930s, he devoted himself to the transformation of traditional painting. After many years, he explored a road of integration between China and the West and absorbed the artisans of folk porcelain painting. His paintings are multi-square composition, line hook color dyeing, ink dripping, painting more autumn, white crane, maple forest, water lily, bottle flower, ladies, etc., unique, in the exploration of modern revolutionary Chinese painting, his creative labor has a milestone significance . Representative works include "The Heron" and "Still Life" hidden in the Shanghai Painting Academy. Many people are affected by it, such as Wu Guanzhong and Huang Yongyu. There are four characteristics of Lin Fengmian's works: one is the duet of block and string. The second is to use square paper composition. The third is to integrate the light, shape and color techniques of Western painting. The fourth is the unity of opposites and harmony.
